About Our Leadership

Tartaglia's

Dennis Tartaglia - Founding Director

Dennis Tartaglia found his niche in medical and scientific communications more than 30 years ago, while working as a program director for a local office of the American Cancer Society.

Since that time, he has designed, led and executed numerous high-impact campaigns to promote the research, patient care, education and advocacy initiatives of some of the nation’s most influential academic medical centers, philanthropies, public health organizations, health care policy groups and biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies. He has worked on both sides of the table: he was a senior public relations executive at two leading teaching hospitals and a number of nonprofits; and senior VP with a New York PR agency before starting Tartaglia Communications.

Dennis has worked in nearly every clinical area, and has extensive expertise in addiction and behavioral health, oncology/hematology, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease, pulmonary disease, orthopedics, rheumatology, geriatrics/gerontology, infectious disease, and neuroscience, neurology and neurosurgery. He has also worked extensively in various areas of public health, including disease prevention and early detection, health disparities, quality and patient safety, and urban health.

A former officer of both the Healthcare Public Relations & Marketing Society and the Public Relations Society of America’s Health Academy, Dennis co-chaired the Academy’s 2011 national conference in Washington, DC. He has been quoted in PRWeek, O’Dwyer’s Public Relations Report, Communiqué and other publications. His work has been featured in Bulldog Reporter’s Breakthrough PR Campaigns and in the Big Book of Brilliant PR Ideas. Dennis currently serves on the board of PRSA’s New Jersey chapter.

Dennis holds a Master of Arts from Montclair State University and a Bachelor of Arts from Ramapo College. He completed postgraduate coursework in the Rutgers School of Public Health.

Sheila Tartaglia - Co-owner

With more than 20 years of experience in public relations, education, and marketing communications, Sheila is a forward-looking leader in education, and within Tartaglia Communications and the PR field as a whole.

Sheila chaired the Public Relations Society of America’s (PRSA) National Diversity and Inclusion Committee, where she helped revitalize and increase the committee’s membership and visibility and engaged PRSA chapters in diversity initiatives. Her articles on diversity, inclusion and other topics relevant to PR practitioners have been published in PRSA national and regional media, including the PRSay blog and Public Relations Tactics.

Sheila sponsored PRSA NJ’s 2017 Future Public Relations Professional of the Year Award in the amount of $1,500, given to an undergraduate student who demonstrates leadership and commitment to the field of public relations and is a member of the New Jersey chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA). The award is given each year at the Annual PRSA NJ Pyramid Award Banquet. Former membership chair of PRSA NJ, Sheila was 2017 recipient of PRSA’s Chapter Services Award, as well as the Pyramid Award for Media Relations and the HPRMS Award for Excellence in Public Relations. In 2015, she won PRSA-NY’s Big Apple Award.

Sheila currently teaches English and Public Speaking on the secondary level and is a former adjunct professor of Communications at Seton Hall University.

Sheila holds a Master of Arts degree from The College of New Jersey, a Bachelor of Arts from Rutgers University, and a Public Relations Certificate from the Rutgers University School of Communication and Information.
